A new book about the artist / photographer Hugeaux is out..” The History of ARTE MECCO “ by Hugeaux and co-written by Catalina Jose Rodriguez. Hugeaux is one of the few artist / photographer whose protean work continues to inspire many artists and photographers. In the early nineties he became a key figure with his revolutionary ARTE MECCO style by going door to door selling his ARTE MECCO in Indianapolis, Indiana. His ARTE MECCO paintings are some of the most prolific, powerful and startling imagery of women of color in the 1990’s.
This book, works on paper, captures the work and fire of this romantic African American Indian. He goes into detail on how these ARTE MECCO paintings were created by using natural juices and gels (cactus apple, pomegranate, aloe vera, etc) The book is lavishly illustrated with full-color reproductions of ARTE MECCO. Techniques and materials are discussed.
The illustrations are elegant. His style of painting helps you to appreciate its influential masters: ART DECO & ART NOUVEAU. The reader is transported on a journey that is sometimes fascinating, amusing, and occasionally inspirational. The book is rich in resources, citing a complete ARTE MECCO Registry from 1990 - 2003 (over 1,000 paintings) in which the artist found helpful in his quest for documenting his personal and developmental experiences.
